Scottish Festival of Brass Success

The band rounded off its 2023 contest season with success at the Scottish Festival of Brass, finishing runners-up at the Scottish Open Brass Band Championships at Perth Concert Hall, with the bands principal cornet Claire Taylor being rewarded for an outstanding performance winning the ‘Best Soloist’ award.

It was a substantive performance of Professor Philip Wilby’s imposing work ‘Astralis’, full of vibrant energy, precise ensemble and quality solo playing that found favour with the adjudicators Sheona Wade and Alan Fernie and pushed the winners, the cooperation band, hard.

It was a hugely enjoyable performance that brought a rewarding 2023 contest season to a close.
